Running Recap 2022
Overview
[I wrote this up in January; finally did the accompanying header artwork and posting now in summer. Oops.]
My 2021 was more or less like the bulk of 2020, in that I never found any consistency through a combination of injury, illness, poor fitness (oh, the irony), and apathy towards running with months taken off at a time.
The good news is I close to doubled that mileage in 2022; obviously the bad news being way, way lower than my previous "normal" (e.g. many months were in the teens for mileage, which is more my usual target for weekly when in shape, to say nothing of a training cycle). In the fall I finally reached my goals of regular 5 mile runs and one 10 miler (had hoped to get another one before the New Year, but caught a bug to end the year).
Races
I finally did an in-person race; I was confident I'd be able to at least finish the local hilly 10k course, but was very much playing it by ear on race day for what my pace would be. I ended up feeling pretty good so I pushed it; still well off my PR, but faster than I thought my fitness level would have permitted.
Race | Result | Pace | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Run Against Hunger 10k | 53:46 | 8:40 | 9:00 minute pace goal |
The Numbers
Year Summary
Obviously very similar to 2020, although that was very much front-loaded with half training prior to shutdown.

Long runs
Finally back to double-digit distance; hoping I didn't lose too much after a few weeks off due to illness and get back to it. Ideally I'd like to get in some hilly 10+ milers, as well as something in the 14-15 mile range; both would be good prep for a March half-marathon.
Year | 10+ Miles | 15+ Miles | 20+ Miles |
---|---|---|---|
2017 | 15 | 8 | 4 |
2018 | 9 | 2 | 0 |

Shoes
As mentioned in my 2020 recap, I've been using up my old pre-pandemic stockpile of road shoes. I am down to my last two pairs, though, so any day now I'll be heading over to Croton Running Company for a new pair.

Apps
Still have my WetzRun family of projects and Strava for tracking data, along with a laundry list of things to add/change/update that I still need to address. My goal this year is to use it as an excuse to make a simple Windows UI app for handling the needed data entry (occasional manual runs, new shoes, etc), mostly to replace the old VueJs web app that I don't want to maintain.
Future Plans
Run and workout more, eat healthier, lose weight.
