Keep Driving
driving
picking turns at random
utterly lost
not a care in the world
she is by my side
it was all her idea
keep driving
we'll end up somewhere
nothing but trees and darkness
along the side of the road
miles passed
she takes my hand from the steering wheel
and holds it in her own
light glows in the distance
a grocery store that never closes
it beckons us inside
we horse around the empty store
annoying the depleted staff
they announce last call
we buy a frozen treat
and head outside
the parking lot is ours alone
we eat our ice cream without
and steam the windows within
it seemed like the thing to do
a lovely summertime fling?
time long past
a blur and ever fading
lost in the shuffle
so much I wonder
if she is a memory
I simply created
